Dietrich Schmidt (pilot)
Dietrich Schmidt (27 June 1919 – 6 March 2002) was a German Luftwaffe night fighter ace and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Dietrich Schmidt claimed 43 aerial victories in 171 missions.[Notes 1]
